Most of our events take place within Durham city centre. Here’s how to get there:
Durham can be reached by an excellent road network. The A1/A1(M) motorway provides fast, easy access from both the north and south. Come off it at junction 62 and follow the A690 into the city centre. If you are coming from the north, Durham can also be accessed via the A68 and A691 – just follow the signs to the city centre.
There are various car parks in walking distance from Durham city centre.
- Walkergate multi-storey car park (DH1 1SQ) is easily reached via the slip road under Milburngate Bridge or via Freeman Place.
- The Sands (Freeman Place) and Prince Bishops multi-storey (DH1 3UJ) car parks are a 5 minute walk away from the city centre.
Park and Ride
As an alternative to parking within the city centre, there are three Park and Ride sites on the key routes into the city at Belmont, Sniperley and Howlands. A direct bus service runs every 10 minutes to the city centre from each site.
There are regular bus services to the city centre from surrounding areas. You can use Traveline North East to help you plan your journey.
Durham city centre is a 10 minute walk from Durham train station, which has regular train services from both the north and south on the East Coast mainline. From the station, follow signs for the city centre.
