Gala Manoeuvres Map

After a successful live launch of 'Gala Manoeuvres' by Artist Tim Brennan on the 2nd and 3rd of July you can now access the 'Manoeuvres' using pioneering mobile phone technology, Tim has ‘geo tagged’ the three routes which take their titles from Pit Yakka – the distinct language used by the miner’s: Marra (which means workmate), Yakka (the miner’s language) and Kenner (the last shift before a break). They can be accessed by any android smart phone or iphone.

The three digital artworks by artist Tim Brennan are inspired by the memories of older generations and young people’s views on Durham’s annual celebration, The Miners’ Gala, now in its 126th year. The artist’s unique way of working involves engaging participants in guided walks and the art of conversation, which he refers to as manoeuvres. The digital artwork will take the form of a downloadable, mobile phone app entitled ‘Gala Manoeuvres’, which can be easily accessed via any android smart phone or iphone.
